I hear it gently patter on the roof and my lips cannot help but lift at the corners, a hesitant, tentative smile breaking out across my face.
I run outside and stand in the moisture falling from the sky. I stand arms out, face lifted to the stars and feel these droplets landing on my cheeks, my nose, eyes and tongue as I stick it out to taste this drought breaking wonder.
As I stand in this glorious moment the intensity increases, imperceptibly at first but gathering momentum, as I stand there without moving until I am soaked through every layer of my being. My clothes hang from me in heavy festoons of fabric. My hair is plastered to my head and everything drips no, flows with rain pouring over and through my body.
A flash of lightning, a thunder clap, I absorb it all. I laugh, I dance like a lunatic, I raise my arms above my head and thank the gods of rain for this life saving elixir flooding my being, soaking into the land, rescuing the trees, the plants, the pasture, the lakes, ponds and dams. We are all giving thanks as we feel the cascade of rain enveloping and filling our every pore.
And it is continuing, not stopping, barely easing, but not flooding no… it is simply, persistently beating down on the drought ridden land which accepts this abundant medicine with open arms, bodies, mouths and spirit.
So refreshing, so reviving, everything, everybody breathes deep, people gather in the doorways, smiling and talking, happy faces.Animals love to chew the moist leaves and twigs, not minding getting wet.
Keep going, keep bringing us this precious water, thank you all out there!

Hallelujah indeed. My garden is also grateful.
