This is Enough...

(Inspired by a conversation between Julia Ferenbacher and James Crews)

This is enough: birds singing, frogs croaking, little grebes skittering across the pond, wind chimes tinkling in the breeze.

Yes, the breeze soft against my skin, is enough.

As is the smell of freshly cut hay, the nodding heads of flowers shyly opening to this new day. They sway in the gentle wind which wraps around us, as we reach out our needy arms for comfort and recognition, as it whispers, this is enough and so too are you.

This is enough: the view from the bathroom window. Steam rises as I open it looking out at young, vibrant green leaves of the wisteria, juxtaposed with cerise flowers of the succulent below. And I shift my gaze across open fields to the mountains of Southern Portugal, silhouetted against the sky so many miles away and yet, also here with me. And it is enough.

It is enough to be content with what is. To stop contemplating what might be. Grand plans and hidden wishes can be cast aside in a moment and we are left with just this; and this is enough.

Indeed, this tea, these flowers, my shoes planted on the ground, my breath coming and going - keeping me alive. What else do I need?

Only to try softer instead of harder.

Perhaps success could be measured by how rested I feel; and whilst we all need to make a living, there seems to be a fine line between living and loving.

I choose the latter.

And for now, that is enough.
